Questions About Hypnotherapy in Newcastle

These are the things people ask me on the phone before they book. If yours is not here, ring me and ask it. I would rather answer it than have you wondering.

Start with a free consultation. Tell me where you are up to, and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person to help.

Brenda Faugere, clinical hypnotherapist in Lambton, Newcastle

Most of what people want to know comes down to three things: whether they will be in control, whether it will work on them, and how many appointments it takes. The short answers are yes, probably, and fewer than you would think.

What people are shyest about asking me

Whether they will look silly. Nobody clucks, nobody hands over their car keys, and nothing happens that you would be embarrassed to have watched.

Stage hypnosis is entertainment and the people on stage have volunteered for exactly that. What happens in my rooms is a private appointment about something you want to change, and it is far more ordinary than television has led people to expect.

Most of the people I see arrive apprehensive or even sceptical, and I would far rather you were honest with me about that than pretending otherwise. It does not get in the way.

What hypnosis is, and what it is like

The question I am asked most on the phone

How it feels

A relaxed, focused state, a bit like being deeply absorbed in something. In that state the mind is more receptive to suggestions that fit with what you already want for yourself.

You stay in control

You remain fully aware throughout. You hear everything I say, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.

Where it is used

Hypnosis is used these days in dentistry, in medicine, in law enforcement, in professional sport and in education, alongside therapeutic work like mine.

What happens on the day

One to one, in my own rooms, and you know what is coming

An open notebook, reading glasses and a cup of tea on a table by a window

First

We talk first

What has been going on, what you have already tried, and what you would like to be different. There is nothing here you need to be embarrassed about.

Then

Then the hypnosis

You settle back in the chair and I guide you into that relaxed, focused state. You hear every word I say, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.

Last

Then we talk about what comes next

What tends to set the old pattern off, what you might do instead, and whether coming again would help. You leave with something to use rather than only something to think about.

“I have been 6 months smoke free now and no longer call myself a smoker - feeling great, health wise and financially. I will say the hypnotherapy doesn't do all the hard work for you but helps if your committed to stopping smoking.”

The honest answer to the question I am asked most

Hypnotherapy does not do the hard work for you. Kate says so in her own review above and I say it on the phone. What it can do is make the hard work possible where willpower alone has not been, and the part you play in it is a real one.

Your part in it

Hypnotherapy is not something that is done to you. You play an active part in it, and it takes determination and commitment on your behalf. When it goes well, we have achieved that together, and the part you played in it is a real one.

All you need is an open mind, to be able to follow simple instructions and want the change for yourself, not because someone else wants the change.

If you cannot see your question

I have worked in health and wellness for over thirty years and I work with the whole person rather than with one thing in isolation. If there is more than one thing going on, bring it all and we will look at it together.

If it is really Reviews and Testimonials, Hypnotherapy Newcastle you are after, there is one on that, and what else I work with has all of them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does hypnosis feel like?

A relaxed, focused state, a bit like being deeply absorbed in something. Most people tell me afterwards that it felt far more ordinary than they expected.

Will I be asleep, or unconscious?

You remain fully aware throughout. You hear everything I say, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.

Can I be made to do something I do not want to do?

No. Suggestions that do not fit with what you want for yourself simply do not take, which is why the work starts with what you actually want.

Can everybody be hypnotised?

Most people can, and being willing matters far more than being suggestible. Sceptical people do perfectly well.

How many sessions will I need?

One for the quit work, three or four for most of the rest. We talk about it at your consultation rather than committing you to a number up front.

What does it cost?

Ring me and I will tell you plainly, because it depends on which piece of work we are talking about. The first conversation is free.

Are you a psychologist?

No. I am a clinical hypnotherapist and I do not take counselling clients. What I do sits alongside talk therapy rather than replacing it.

Is what I tell you private?

Yes. It is one practitioner in private rooms, and nothing said in the session leaves it.

Where are your rooms?

Suite 5, 115 Elder Street, Lambton NSW 2299, and I also see people at Tea Gardens.

Is hypnotherapy covered by Medicare?

No. Medicare doesn't cover hypnotherapy, and it can't be claimed on a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Whether your private health fund pays anything back depends on your fund and your extras cover, so it's worth checking with them before you book. If you'd like to talk it through first, book a free phone call with me.
