Hypnotherapy in Newcastle & Tea Gardens

Hypnotherapy for Grief in Newcastle

If it has been a while and people expect you to be further along than you are, you are not alone, and there is no timetable you are behind on. Grief is not a problem to be fixed, and I would not treat yours as one.

Start with a free consultation. Tell me where you are up to, and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person to help.

Brenda Faugere, clinical hypnotherapist in Lambton, Newcastle

This compassionate therapy with me is one to one, in my rooms at Lambton or at Tea Gardens, and it goes at your pace. Some people come because the loss is still raw, others because something has stayed stuck years afterwards, and the work is different for each.

Why grief can settle in one part of life and not another

Grief moves in its own time, and most of it needs no help from me at all. What sometimes stays behind is a piece that has nowhere to go: something unsaid, a last conversation, guilt about a decision, or a fear of letting the person fade.

That piece tends to sit in the same part of the mind that holds everything else you have not been able to put down, which is why talking about it sensibly can leave it exactly where it was.

None of that is a personal failure, and it says nothing about how you loved them. It is simply how the mind works, and it is the part I can help with.

What hypnosis is, and what it is like

The question I am asked most on the phone

How it feels

A relaxed, focused state, a bit like being deeply absorbed in something. In that state the mind is more receptive to suggestions that fit with what you already want for yourself.

You stay in control

You remain fully aware throughout. You hear everything I say, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.

Where it is used

Hypnosis is used these days in dentistry, in medicine, in law enforcement, in professional sport and in education, alongside therapeutic work like mine.

What we do in your session

One to one, in my own rooms, and you stay in charge of the pace

First

We talk first

Who you have lost, what has been hardest, and what you would like to feel able to do again. You tell me only what you want me to know, and there is no part of this you have to perform for me.

Then

Then the hypnosis

You settle back in the chair and I guide you into that relaxed, focused state. Stacey, whose words are below, has written publicly about releasing grief and emotions that had been sitting in her. You can talk to me and stop whenever you want to.

Last

Then we settle before you leave

We take time at the end so you are steady before you drive home, and we talk about the days after and whether coming again would help.

Kind words from my clients

What this work does not try to do

It does not take the person away from you, and I would not want it to. What we work on is the piece that has been stopping you carrying them the way you would like to. If you are also seeing a grief counsellor, keep seeing them, and Lifeline is on 13 11 14 at any hour.

Your part in it

Hypnotherapy is not something that is done to you. You play an active part in it, and it takes determination and commitment on your behalf. When it goes well, we have achieved that together, and the part you played in it is a real one.

All you need is an open mind, to be able to follow simple instructions and want the change for yourself, not because someone else wants the change.

Often it is not only about the loss

People come to me about one thing and we frequently find ourselves talking about sleep, or stress, or grief, or a stretch of life that got very heavy, because these things rarely sit on their own.

I have worked in health and wellness for over thirty years and I work with the whole person rather than with one symptom in isolation. If there is something else going on for you, bring it with you and we will look at it together.

There is a page on Hypnotherapy for Depression in Newcastle too, and the rest of my work has the rest of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it too soon to come?

There is no rule about this. Ring me and tell me where you are up to, and I will give you my honest view, including if I think waiting a while would serve you better.

Will this make me forget them?

No, and I would not want it to. The work is on the part that has been stuck rather than on the person you are remembering.

Do I have to talk about the details?

You tell me what you want me to know. A great deal can be done without them.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on what we find, and we talk about it at your consultation rather than putting a number on it up front.

What if I cry the whole way through?

That is allowed, and it is not a problem for me. We take the time we need at the end so you leave steady.

I lost a pet. Is that the same thing?

It is a real loss and I treat it as one. Please do not feel you have to justify it to me.

Where are your rooms?

Suite 5, 115 Elder Street, Lambton NSW 2299, and I also see people at Tea Gardens.

Is hypnotherapy covered by Medicare?

No. Medicare doesn't cover hypnotherapy, and it can't be claimed on a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Whether your private health fund pays anything back depends on your fund and your extras cover, so it's worth checking with them before you book. If you'd like to talk it through first, book a free phone call with me.
