Hypnotherapy in Newcastle & Tea Gardens

Hypnotherapy for Depression in Newcastle

If everything feels heavier than it used to and you cannot point at a reason, you are not alone, and it is not something you have brought on yourself. What I can offer sits alongside your doctor's care rather than in place of it.

Start with a free consultation. Tell me where you are up to, and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person to help, or whether your GP is.

Brenda Faugere, clinical hypnotherapist in Lambton, Newcastle

This work with me is one to one, in my rooms at Lambton or at Tea Gardens. Depression is a medical matter and your doctor stays in charge of it. What I work on is the thinking that tends to travel with it, the old story about yourself, and the patterns that keep a heavy stretch heavy.

Why I say your doctor comes first

Depression is a diagnosis, and diagnosing it, ruling out the physical causes and prescribing for it are all your doctor's work rather than mine. I am a clinical hypnotherapist, not a psychologist, a psychiatrist or a GP.

What I can work with is the part of the mind that holds a belief in place. Several of my clients have described letting go of self talk that had been running for years, and one has written publicly that she had done psychology first and found this reached something different.

If you are on medication, keep taking it. Nothing I do requires you to change it, and any change in dosage is a conversation with the doctor who prescribed it.

What hypnosis is, and what it is like

The question I am asked most on the phone

How it feels

A relaxed, focused state, a bit like being deeply absorbed in something. In that state the mind is more receptive to suggestions that fit with what you already want for yourself.

You stay in control

You remain fully aware throughout. You hear everything I say, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.

Where it is used

Hypnosis is used these days in dentistry, in medicine, in law enforcement, in professional sport and in education, alongside therapeutic work like mine.

What we do in your session

One to one, in my own rooms, at whatever pace suits you

A closed notebook and a glass of water on a windowsill in daylight

First

We talk first

How long it has been like this, what your days look like, who else is involved in your care, and what you would like to feel differently. There is nothing here you need to be embarrassed about, and you tell me only what you want me to know.

Then

Then the hypnosis

You settle back in the chair and I guide you into that relaxed, focused state, and we work gently with what has been sitting there. You hear every word I say, you can talk to me, and you can stop whenever you want to.

Last

Then we look at what comes next

What is worth taking back to your doctor, what you might do on the harder days, and whether coming again would help.

If today is a bad day

Please ring Lifeline on 13 11 14. They answer day and night, and there is no situation too small to call them about. If you are worried about someone else, the same number is the right one to ring.

Your part in it

Hypnotherapy is not something that is done to you. You play an active part in it, and it takes determination and commitment on your behalf. When it goes well, we have achieved that together, and the part you played in it is a real one.

All you need is an open mind, to be able to follow simple instructions and want the change for yourself, not because someone else wants the change.

Often it is not only about the mood

People come to me about one thing and we frequently find ourselves talking about sleep, or stress, or grief, or a stretch of life that got very heavy, because these things rarely sit on their own.

I have worked in health and wellness for over thirty years and I work with the whole person rather than with one symptom in isolation. If there is something else going on for you, bring it with you and we will look at it together.

If it is really Anxiety Hypnotherapy in Newcastle you are after, there is one on that, and the wider mind work I do has all of them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can hypnotherapy treat depression?

Depression is a medical matter and your doctor treats it. What I work on is the thinking and the patterns that often travel with it, alongside their care rather than instead of it.

Should I speak to my GP first?

Yes, please, if you have not already. It is the right first call, and I will say the same thing on the phone.

Do I have to come off my medication?

No. Keep taking what your doctor has prescribed. Any change is a conversation with them rather than with me.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends a great deal on what we find, and I would rather talk about it at your consultation than put a number on it now.

Will I have to talk about everything that has happened?

No. You tell me what you want me to know, and we can work with far less detail than people expect.

What if I need help today?

Ring Lifeline on 13 11 14, or your doctor. If someone is in danger, ring 000.

Where are your rooms?

Suite 5, 115 Elder Street, Lambton NSW 2299, and I also see people at Tea Gardens.

Is hypnotherapy covered by Medicare?

No. Medicare doesn't cover hypnotherapy, and it can't be claimed on a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Whether your private health fund pays anything back depends on your fund and your extras cover, so it's worth checking with them before you book. If you'd like to talk it through first, book a free phone call with me.
