Hypnotherapy in Newcastle & Tea Gardens
If your weight has gone up and down for years, you are not alone, and it was never a lack of discipline. Eating patterns live in the subconscious mind, and that is the part I work with.
Start with a free consultation. Tell me where you are up to, and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person to help.

Weight management therapy with me is one to one, in my rooms at Lambton, at Tea Gardens, or online and most people I see for it come four times. Depending on the individual challenge, some people only need one session. Together we look at the eating pattern itself and at what the food is doing for you, in a relaxed and focused state where the subconscious mind is more open to change. We get specific about what that change will look life for you personally.
A diet changes what is on the plate. It leaves in place the reason the fridge opens at nine at night when you are not hungry, and that reason is rarely about food. Boredom, tiredness, worry, reward, or the feeling that this is the one thing in the day that is yours.
Your subconscious mind is designed to keep you safe and to conserve energy, so it prefers what is familiar, even when you consciously want something different. Eating in a particular way has often been familiar for a very long time.
None of that is a personal failure. It is simply how the mind works, and it is the reason I work at the subconscious level rather than at the level of the meal plan, although I do offer suggestions.
The question I am asked most on the phone
A relaxed, focused state, a bit like being deeply absorbed in something. In that state the mind is more receptive to suggestions that fit with what you already want for yourself.
You remain fully aware throughout. You hear everything I say, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.
Hypnosis is used these days in dentistry, in medicine, in law enforcement, in professional sport and in education, alongside therapeutic work like mine.
One to one, in my own rooms, or online, usually between one to five appointments

First
When the weight went on, what you have already tried, and what tends to happen in the hour before you eat the things you did not plan to eat. I am listening for the pattern underneath what you tell me, and there is nothing here you need to be embarrassed about.
Then
You settle back in the chair and I guide you into that relaxed, focused state, and we work on the pattern and on what the food has been doing for you. You hear every word I say, you can talk to me, and you can stop whenever you want to.
Last
The situations that may test you, what you might do instead, and what we work on when you next come in. Some clients suit the virtual gastric band program, and for others it may be simply a quit sugar appointment or a desired weight reset appointment.

James was 115kg in May 2025 and 100kg on 1 July 2026, and my own reply to his review says the honest half of it: it also takes determination and commitment on your behalf. His change came in small increments over a year, which is the way it usually goes, and those are his numbers rather than a rate I can offer you.
Hypnotherapy is not something that is done to you. You play an active part in it, and it takes determination and commitment on your behalf. When it goes well, we have achieved that together, and the part you played in it is a real one.
All you need is an open mind, to be able to follow simple instructions and want the change for yourself, not because someone else wants the change.
People come to me about their weight and we frequently find ourselves talking about stress, or sleep, or grief, or the years of putting everybody else first, because eating is very often doing a job somewhere else in their life.
I have worked in health and wellness for over thirty years and I work with the whole person rather than with one habit in isolation. If there is something else going on for you, bring it with you and we will look at it together.
If what you have read here is not quite it, the other things I work with lists everything else I see people for, and there is a page on Weight Loss Hypnotherapy Program in Newcastle as well.

I see people one to one, in my own rooms at Lambton. My weight work is a certified weight management program and it includes the virtual gastric band for the clients who want it. You will not get a meal plan or a calorie target from me, because the part I work on is the pattern underneath the eating.
You will not get a meal plan or a calorie target from me. We work on the eating pattern and on what the food is doing for you, and what you eat stays your decision.
It can, when the reason you eat is more than hunger. Hypnosis works on the habit and the feelings underneath it, not on willpower. It is not a guarantee, and it works best when you want the change for yourself. We can talk honestly on the phone about whether it suits what you are dealing with.
That is who I see most. If a diet worked for a while and the weight came back, the eating pattern usually has not changed. That pattern lives in the subconscious mind, which is the part hypnosis works with, alongside the healthy choices you already know about.
Three or four for most people I see for this, and sometimes more where the virtual gastric band is part of it. We talk about that at your consultation rather than committing you to a number up front.
That varies a great deal from person to person. James, whose review is above, lost his in small increments across about a year, and steady is the way I would rather see it go.
It is hypnosis where the mind responds as though a gastric band had been fitted. It happens in the chair in one of your sessions, and there is no surgery and no anaesthetic involved.
You remain fully aware and in control the whole time. You hear everything, you can speak, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.
Tell me on the phone. I work alongside your doctor rather than instead of them, and where your GP is the right first call I will say so.

No. Medicare doesn't cover hypnotherapy, and it can't be claimed on a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Whether your private health fund pays anything back depends on your fund and your extras cover, so it's worth checking with them before you book. If you'd like to talk it through first, book a free phone call with me.

The consultation is free. Pick a time in my calendar and tell me where you are up to, and if I do not think I can help you I will say so.
