Hypnotherapy in Newcastle & Tea Gardens
If portion size is the part you cannot seem to hold on to, you are not alone, and it was never greed. The virtual gastric band works with the same part of the mind that decides you are finished.
Start with a free consultation. Tell me where you are up to, and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person to help.

The virtual gastric band is hypnosis in which your mind responds as though a gastric band had been fitted. It happens in the chair in my rooms at Lambton or at Tea Gardens, with no surgery and no anaesthetic, and it usually sits inside a short series of sessions rather than standing on its own.
A surgical band changes the stomach. This works on the part of the mind that decides you have had enough, which is the part that has usually stopped being listened to somewhere along the way.
Your subconscious mind prefers what is familiar, so finishing the plate because that is what you have always done can be far stronger than a decision made at the start of the week.
None of that is a personal failure. It is simply how the mind works, and it is why the session is spent on that level rather than on rules about food.
The question I am asked most on the phone
A relaxed, focused state, a bit like being deeply absorbed in something. In that state the mind is more receptive to suggestions that fit with what you already want for yourself.
You remain fully aware throughout. You hear everything I say, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.
Hypnosis is used these days in dentistry, in medicine, in law enforcement, in professional sport and in education, alongside therapeutic work like mine.
One to one, in my own rooms, usually across three appointments

First
What your eating looks like on an ordinary day, where the portions grew, what you have already tried, and what you would like to feel at the end of a meal. I am listening for the pattern underneath what you tell me.
Then
You settle back in the chair and I guide you into that relaxed, focused state, and we do the band work there. You remain fully aware, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.
Last
How meals tend to feel afterwards, what to do at a restaurant or at Christmas, and what we work on when you next come in. James, whose review is below, came three times for this.

James was 115kg in May 2025 and 100kg on 1 July 2026 after three of these sessions, and my own reply to him says the honest half: it also takes determination and commitment on your behalf. His weight came off in small increments across the year, which is both the healthiest and the most lasting way I have seen it go.
Hypnotherapy is not something that is done to you. You play an active part in it, and it takes determination and commitment on your behalf. When it goes well, we have achieved that together, and the part you played in it is a real one.
All you need is an open mind, to be able to follow simple instructions and want the change for yourself, not because someone else wants the change.
People come to me for the band and we frequently find ourselves talking about stress, or sleep, or the way food has been a comfort at the end of a long day, because eating is very often doing a job somewhere else in their life.
I have worked in health and wellness for over thirty years and I work with the whole person rather than with one habit in isolation. If there is something else going on for you, bring it with you and we will look at it together.

I see people one to one, in my own rooms at Lambton, and I am a certified weight management coach for the virtual gastric band. Most people arrive having tried a great deal already, and there is nothing about that you need to explain away to me.
None at all. The whole thing happens in the chair in my rooms, and you walk out afterwards the way you walked in.
Three for most people I see for this. James, whose words are above, came three times across his year.
People describe it differently. What clients report to me most often is noticing sooner that they have had enough, rather than any physical sensation.
You will not get a meal plan or a calorie target from me. The work is on the eating pattern, and what you eat stays your decision.
You remain fully aware and in control the whole time. You hear everything, you can speak, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.
Tell me on the phone and speak to your surgeon or your GP as well. I work alongside your medical care rather than instead of it.

No. Medicare doesn't cover hypnotherapy, and it can't be claimed on a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Whether your private health fund pays anything back depends on your fund and your extras cover, so it's worth checking with them before you book. If you'd like to talk it through first, book a free phone call with me.
