Hypnotherapy in Newcastle & Tea Gardens

Trauma Hypnotherapy in Newcastle

If something that happened years ago still has a say in your day, you are not alone, and it is not a sign that you have failed to move on. The mind stores an experience with the feeling attached, and that is the part I work with.

Start with a free consultation. Tell me as much or as little as you like, and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person to help.

Brenda Faugere, clinical hypnotherapist in Lambton, Newcastle

This work with me is one to one, in my rooms at Lambton or at Tea Gardens, and it goes at your pace. Together we look at what still gets set off and at the belief that was formed at the time, in a relaxed and focused state where the subconscious mind is more open to change.

Why time on its own does not always settle it

When something overwhelming happens, the mind stores it quickly and with the feeling still attached, because its first job is to make sure you recognise anything like it again. That is protection rather than damage.

Years later the situation is long gone, and the reaction is still doing its work. A smell, a tone of voice or a particular kind of day can set it going before you have had a thought about it.

None of that is a personal failure. It is simply how the mind works, and it is the reason we go gently to where the memory is held rather than talk around it.

What hypnosis is, and what it is like

The question I am asked most on the phone

How it feels

A relaxed, focused state, a bit like being deeply absorbed in something. In that state the mind is more receptive to suggestions that fit with what you already want for yourself.

You stay in control

You remain fully aware throughout. You hear everything I say, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.

Where it is used

Hypnosis is used these days in dentistry, in medicine, in law enforcement, in professional sport and in education, alongside therapeutic work like mine.

What we do in your sessions

One to one, in my own rooms, and you stay in charge of the pace

First

We talk first, and only as far as you want to

What gets set off now, what you would like to be different, and what support you already have around you. You do not have to tell me the whole story for this to work, and I will not press you for it.

Then

Then the hypnosis

You settle back in the chair and I guide you into that relaxed, focused state, and we work at a distance you can manage. You remain fully aware, you can talk to me, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like. If needed, we can incorporate EMDR.

Last

Then we settle before you leave

We take time at the end so you are steady before you drive home, and we talk about the days after, who to lean on, and whether coming again would help.

Kind words from my clients

★★★★★

“In my first session I had a luxury of completely relaxing, so that I would be ready for the deep work of the second session... As a result I felt calmer, more centred and balanced.”

“I was agitated, emotional and overworked beforehand. Now I am back feeling like my aligned self... We released grief and also emotions that were trapped in me where I really didn't feel like myself. I can't explain how at peace I feel now.”

Where I sit alongside the other help

If you are already seeing a psychologist or a counsellor, keep seeing them. What I do sits alongside that work. For support at any hour, 1800RESPECT is on 1800 737 732 and Lifeline is on 13 11 14, and I would rather you rang one of them than sat with it alone.

Your part in it

Hypnotherapy is not something that is done to you. You play an active part in it, and it takes determination and commitment on your behalf. When it goes well, we have achieved that together, and the part you played in it is a real one.

All you need is an open mind, to be able to follow simple instructions and want the change for yourself, not because someone else wants the change.

Often it is not only about the one memory

People come to me about one thing and we frequently find ourselves talking about sleep, or stress, or grief, or a stretch of life that got very heavy, because these things rarely sit on their own.

I have worked in health and wellness for over thirty years and I work with the whole person rather than with one symptom in isolation. If there is something else going on for you, bring it with you and we will look at it together.

If what you have read here is not quite it, Mental Health Hypnotherapy in Newcastle lists everything else I see people for, and there is a page on Hypnotherapy for Grief in Newcastle as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have to relive it?

No. We work at a distance you can manage, and the point is to change how the memory sits rather than to put you back through it.

Do I have to tell you what happened?

You tell me what you want me to know. A great deal can be done without the details, and I will not press you for them.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on what we find, and I would rather talk about it at your consultation than put a number on it before I have met you.

Can I keep seeing my psychologist?

Yes, please do. I am not a psychologist or a counsellor and what I do sits alongside their work rather than replacing it.

Will I lose control or say something I would rather keep to myself?

You remain fully aware and in control the whole time. You hear everything, you can speak, and you can bring yourself out of it whenever you like.

What if I get upset in the session?

That is allowed, and it is not a problem for me. We take the time we need at the end so you leave steady.

Where are your rooms?

Suite 5, 115 Elder Street, Lambton NSW 2299, and I also see people at Tea Gardens.

Is hypnotherapy covered by Medicare?

No. Medicare doesn't cover hypnotherapy, and it can't be claimed on a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Whether your private health fund pays anything back depends on your fund and your extras cover, so it's worth checking with them before you book. If you'd like to talk it through first, book a free phone call with me.
